Illinois State recruit Chrissy Burton struck out 13 as the BNGSA Extreme Motors Angels beat the Lyons Township Redbirds 2-0 Friday in the BNGSA Firecracker Tournament at Champion Fields in Normal.
Burton gave up four hits and walked one in the six-inning game. Chelsea Myers had two hits for the Angels.
The Angels went on the offensive in a 15-0 win over the LGSA Lazers that was shortened to three innings. Abby Olson had three hits and five runs batted in, while Katie Lutes had three hits (including two doubles) and three RBI. Amanda Elkins struck out five and allowed one hit.
Kelly Kinsella and Kaylee West combined on a shutout as the Twin City T-Birds downed the BNGSA Freeze 5-0.
Kinsella pitched the first four innings before giving way to West for the final two innings. Christine Russell went 3-for-3 with two runs batted in, while Amanda Sartoris was 2-for-3 with two RBI for the T-Birds. Kris Klinzing struck out five for the Freeze.
Taylor Birky (3-2) gave up one unearned run and struck out six as the Freeze beat the Joliet Dirt Devils 3-1. Sara Idleman went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
