Jeremy Crouch had 13 points and Bradley turned to its defense to defeat Southern Mississippi 56-43 in nonconference basketball Wednesday night at Hattiesburg, Miss.

The Braves (6-2) held Southern Miss to 29 percent shooting in winning their second straight game.

Lawrence Wright added 12 points for Bradley. His basket with 8:12 remaining pushed the Braves' lead into double figures to stay.

Kyle Lamonte led Southern Miss (4-7) with a career-high 18 points. The slow-starting Golden Eagles had just seven points with 8 minutes remaining in the first half.

Bradley led 21-18 at halftime and gradually increased it the rest of the way.

The Braves outrebounded Southern Miss 36-28 and snapped the Golden Eagles' modest two-game winning streak that was their first since December 2004.

Austin Peay 74, Evansville 71

Landon Shipley scored a career-high 24 points as Austin Peay withstood a late rally and beat Evansville at Clarksville, Tenn.

Evansville (4-4) led 66-64 with 3:37 left on a jump shot by Kyle Anslinger, who had 13 points.

A 3-point shot by Maurice Hampton with 2:39 put Austin Peay (6-4) up 67-66, and the Governors never lost the lead. Austin Peay sealed the win with a jump shot by Drake Reed and five free throws by Shipley, Hampton and Zac Schlader.

For the Aces, Bradley Strickland had 16 points. Matt Webster added another 16 points, along with nine rebounds.

Creighton 63, Norfolk State 47

Anthony Tolliver scored 14 points and Johnny Mathies added 13 to lead Creighton over Norfolk State at Omaha, Neb.

Creighton (6-2) also got 12 points from Nick Porter and 10 from Dane Watts to stay unbeaten in five home games.

Norfolk State (2-8) was led by Tony Murphy with 18 points, but none of his teammates managed more than 7 points.

The road-weary Spartans, who have played one home game, couldn't keep from fouling and Creighton used free throws to pull away in the second half. The Bluejays led 36-30 before scoring 11 straight points to lead by 17. The first 9 points on the decisive run came on free throws and the final 2 on a long jumper by Tolliver.
