BELOIT, Wisc. - The Peoria Chiefs gave away a 9-2 lead Sunday afternoon against the Beloit Snappers before rallying back for an 11-9 win in Midwest League play Sunday at Beloit.
The Chiefs (2-2 in second half, 33-40 overall) held a 3-2 lead after two innings before scoring three runs in the fourth, two more in the fifth and one in the sixth for a 9-2 lead.
Beloit fired back with three in the sixth inning to cut the Chiefs lead to 9-5 and chase starting pitcher Jose Pina. The Snappers then roughed up relievers Jayson Ruhlman and Jeremy Papelbon for four runs in the seventh to tie the game at 9-9.
The Chiefs rebounded with two in the eighth to regain the lead at 11-9 and Papelbon (4-2) settled down to pick up the win after blowing the save opportunity just two innings earlier.
Matt Camp went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs to lead Peoria. Jim Adduci and Wellington Castillo each had two RBI while Ryan Norwood, Alfred Joseph and Nate Samson collected three hits each for the winners.
