PEORIA - The Peoria Chiefs, in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs, announced Wednesday outfielder Yusuf Carter has been promoted to Daytona of the Florida State League and the Chiefs have added recent draftee Brian Leclerc out of the University of Florida.
Carter was hitting .258 in 68 games with 10 homers, 41 RBI and nine doubles. He was leading the team in homers, triples, RBI, extra base hits, slugging percentage, at-bats and strikeouts. Carter had five homers and 14 RBI in 16 games in June.
Leclerc is the first 2007 Cubs' draftee to join the Chiefs. He was selected in the 31st round of the June draft.
The 22-year-old was originally assigned to Boise in the Northwest League and went 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored while playing left field in the season opener Tuesday night.
