BURLINGTON, Iowa - Ryne Malone extended his hitting streak to 12 games but it was all for naught as the Peoria Chiefs squandered an early lead, falling 6-5 to the Burlington Bees in Midwest League baseball Monday night.

Dylan Johnson's three-run homer in the second inning staked the Chiefs to a 4-0 lead but Peoria starter Miguel Cuevas (0-1) couldn't hold off the Bees.

Burlington countered with a Michael Thompson two-run double in the second inning and a two-run shot from Brady Everett in the third to tie the game at 4-4. The Bees added single runs in the fourth and seventh innings to extend their lead to 6-4.

Peoria rallied in the ninth when Malone drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to cut the Bees' margin to 6-5. But Burlington reliever Henry Barrera struck out the final two Chiefs batters to preserve the win for starter Aaron Hartsock.
