GRAND CHUTE, Wis. - The Peoria Chiefs outhit the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 12-3, but Casey Craig's three-run homer in the second inning was enough for the hosts in a 4-2 season-opening Midwest League baseball win on Thursday night.
Four Wisconsin pitchers combined to strike out 14 Chief batters, with starter and winner Jason Snyder fanning seven in five innings of work. Joe Woerman, Wisconsin's final pitcher of the night, struck out the side in the ninth for a save.
Craig's homer came off losing pitcher Donny Veal, who gave up all four runs in 31/3 innings.
The Chiefs scored twice in the fourth on a double by Ryan Norwood, an RBI single by Brandon Taylor and a passed ball, but that was as close as Peoria could get.
The Timber Rattlers got their final run in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Alex Gary.
