Illinois Wesleyan junior Zach Anderson earned All-American honors with a seventh-place finish in the shot put at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships at Boston on Saturday.
Anderson threw a season-best of 55 feet, 5 inches. David Kornack of Wisconsin-Eau Claire won at 65-0¾.
IWU tied for 57th with two points and the IWU women tied for 71st with one point. North Central was the men's champion and Williams was the women's winner.
Coming into the meet, Anderson had the seventh best qualifying mark of 55-0.
Baseball team rallies: The IWU baseball team scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to pull out a 12-11 victory over New Jersey City in the Russ Matt Invitational at Auburndale, Fla.
The Titans scored the tying run in the ninth on an errant pickoff throw that allowed Nick Figus to score after reaching base with a lead-off double. Freshman rightfielder Evan Rannekley then delivered the game-winning hit with a run-scoring single that scored John Bosco.
Rannekley had three of IWU's 15 hits and drove home four runs. Designated hitter Ben Manski had four hits, including a double and home run.
New Jersey City had 17 hits off six Titan hurlers. Matt Blaney earned the pitching victory after giving up just one hit over the final two innings, setting down New Jersey City in order in the ninth.
The Titans will face St. Joseph's College of Maine at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday in Winter Haven, Fla.
Softball team drops two: The ISU softball team lost to Long Island University Brooklyn, 5-3, and Notre Dame, 5-1, at Miami, Fla.
Against LIU Brooklyn (12-7), Mack Leonard had three hits including a double for ISU (5-19) while Ellie Weltha drove in two runs thanks to two hits including a double.
Ali Domkuski took the loss after allowing six hits and three earned runs in 3.2 innings.
The Redbirds were limited to four hits against Notre Dame (10-7). Weltha drove in ISU's lone run in the sixth with Shannon Felde on base. Morgan Day (2-8) took the loss after allowing two earned runs and six hits in four innings.
The Redbirds will close out the FAU/FIU Parent’s Weekend Tournament Sunday with a 2:45 p.m. game against Florida Atlantic and a 7:15 p.m. game against Purdue.
LaRoche second in gymnastics: ISU senior Meredith LaRoche tied for second in both the vault and beam in the Illinois Classic at Champaign. LaRoche's 9.875 on the bars was a career-best. UIC won the four-team meet with 196.150 points followed by Illinois (196.075), Northern Illinois (195.750) and ISU (195.075).
