Illinois State junior guard Daishon Knight is the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week for men’s basketball, as announced by the league office Monday.
Knight averaged 15.0 points per game on 16 for 31 (51.6 percent) shooting from the field plus 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game. He led Illinois State to a 2-1 finish and a tie for first place in the round-robin University of San Francisco Golden Gate Challenge.
Knight matched a career-high with 21 points in Friday’s win over Sonoma State. He shot a game-best 8 for 10 from the field, including 3 of 4 from 3-point range. He also grabbed five rebounds with two assists.
In ISU’s victory over San Francisco on Saturday, Knight had 12 points with career-highs in rebounds (8), assists (6) and steals (3). He also had 12 points and a team-best four assists and three steals in a loss to Vermont.
ISU is at home at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday against Chicago State.
