EUREKA — Amos Arbogast has been selected as the new head coach of the Eureka College women’s basketball program.
Arbogast, an assistant with the men's team since 2011, follows athletic director Steve Thompson as the 12th coach in program history.
"I would like to thank Steve Thompson, President (Jamel Santa Cruze) Wright and everyone involved in the selection process for the opportunity to lead this group of young women and this program going forward," Arbogast said in a Thursday news release.
"I am grateful for the opportunity and I look forward to building upon the championship success established by the women's basketball program at Eureka College."
The Red Devils posted a 20-8 record last season, sweeping the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament titles and making their first appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament. Four starters and nine letterwinners are eligible to return.
Arbogast helped Chip Wilde's men's team reach the SLIAC semifinals in 2012 and the conference title game the following season. Last year, the Red Devils set a single-season team scoring record of 90.5 points per game.
“We are excited for Coach Arbogast to transition to head women's basketball coach,” said Thompson, who stepped down from the position in April. “Amos is focused on academics, a tireless recruiter and committed to the development of our student-athletes. I am very excited for him to take the reins of our championship level program.”
An Iowa native, Arbogast began his coaching career as an assistant at Tri-Valley High School in 2009. He lives in Bloomington with his wife, Colleen, and their two sons, Titus and Judge.
