Illinois State’s women’s basketball team hits the road for the first time in more than a month Friday for a 7:05 p.m. Missouri Valley Conference game against Drake at Des Moines, Iowa.
The Redbirds also play a 2:05 p.m. Valley game on Sunday at Northern Iowa as they seek their first victory of the season. They are 0-12 overall and 0-1 In the Missouri Valley.
ISU is coming off a 65-56 loss to Southern Illinois on Sunday in which the Redbirds led by 13 points in the second half. Stekara Hall led the way with 17 points in that game, followed by Octavia Crump (14) and Katy Winge (12). Crump also had 13 rebounds for the sixth double-double of her career.
The Redbirds are trying to avoid the longest losing streak in program history. The 1998-99 team lost 13 in a row.
Crump leads ISU with 11.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Winge is next in scoring at 10.6, with Hall at 9.8.
Drake is 7-6 overall and 2-0 in the Valley. The Bulldogs have five players averaging in double figures scoring, led by Lizzy Wendell at 23.5. Drake has scored 76.8 points per contest to ISU’s 52.8.
Northern Iowa has a 6-7 overall mark and also is 2-0 in Valley play. The Panthers are led by Madison Weekley’s 13.4 points per game. Jen Keitel adds 11.9 points and 7.4 rebounds.
