CHICAGO — Chloe Nelson provided a career-high 18 points, but the Illinois State women’s basketball team couldn’t overcome No. 25 nationally ranked DePaul in an 80-67 loss Monday night at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
Nelson was 6 of 9 from the floor, including a 3-pointer, and added five free throws to lead the Redbirds (0-2).
Sophomore Octavia Crump scored the first double-double of her ISU career with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Mackenzie Freeman also reached double figures for ISU with 10 points while Brianna Puni pulled down 12 rebounds.
ISU was held scoreless for the first 4:46 of the game, but rallied to trail 41-37 at halftime. DePaul opened the second half with an 8-0 run and never trailed in the game.
DePaul (3-0) shot 45 percent from the floor, while ISU hit on 43 percent of its attempts from the floor. DePaul converted 28 ISU turnovers into 31 points.
The Redbirds will play host to Colorado State on Saturday at 4:05 p.m. at Redbird Arena in the home opener.
