The Illinois State volleyball team lost twice in the Marquette Invitational on Saturday. The Redbirds first fell to No. 6 Wisconsin, 22-25, 25-14, 25-20, 25-15, before bowing to No. 21 Marquette, 25-23, 26-24, 25-17.

Against Wisconsin, ISU (8-4) received 15 kills from Lexi Varga, 11 from Marissa Stockman and 10 from Kaylee Martin. Stef Jankiewicz provided 39 assists while Courtney Pence chipped in 17 digs.

Dana Rettke had 16 kills for Wisconsin (7-1), which outhit ISU, .296 to .097.

Marquette (9-3) received 12 kills from Allie Barber while ISU got nine kills apiece from Varga and Ella Francis. Jankiewicz provided 30 assists and Pence 17 digs.


Men's soccer romps: The IWU men's soccer team (5-1) notched a 4-0 victory over Grinnell (3-2) at Grinnell, Iowa. Titan scorers were Konrad Wasilewski, Patrick Hickey, Blake Tempel and Doug Ballard. Providing assists were Donovan Malone and Orion Marty.

IWU outshot its host, 25-6. Wesleyan goalie Alex Ruckstaetter made five saves.

Women run 6th, men 15th: The IWU women's cross country team finished sixth (194) and the men 15th (400) in the 17-team Wheaton Gil Dodds Invitational at Warrenville.

The IWU women were led by freshman Jenna Mirande in 11th (22:56) on the 6K course. The men were led by junior Steve Raybould in 46th (27:10) on an 8K course.

Women's golf 7th: Illinois Wesleyan finished seventh of 16 teams at its own IWU Fall Classic at Ironwood Golf Course in Normal.

Washington (Mo.) was the team champion at 293 with the Titans at 324. Washington's Samantha Haubenstock was medalist at 70. The top IWU finisher was Melanie Wolf, who tied for eighth at 74.
