The Illinois Wesleyan men’s golf team has a chance to win its first national championship Friday at Grandover Reort & Conference Center in Greensboro, N.C.
The Titans fired a 298 on Thursday in the third round of the NCAA Division III Championship and enter Friday’s final round with an 883 total. IWU is tied for fourth place, but only six strokes behind leader Greensboro. Also in the hunt are Methodist (880), Texas Lutheran (882), St. John’s, Minn. (883) and Emory (885).
The Titans’ Ryan Dorner is tied for eight individually after a 74-217, while Dex Reese is tied for 14th at 76-220. Jake Scott led IWU on Thursday with an even-par 72 and is tied for 23rd at 222.
Titan women third in golf: The IWU women’s golf team shot the day’s second best round on Thursday with a 326 and moved up to third place after the third round of the NCAA Division III Championship at Mission Inn El Campeon Course in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
The Titans have a 991 total heading into today’s final round, one stroke ahead of St. Mary’s, Ind. Methodist has a 966 total and a commanding 12-stroke lead over Gustavus Adolphus.
