The Illinois Wesleyan women’s golf team carded a 332 Tuesday and was in sixth place after the first round of the 19-team NCAA Division III women’s championship at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort El Campeon Course in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
The Titans trail leader Methodist University by 14 shots. IWU’s Katie Klosterman posted a 5-over-par 78 and is in fifth place, one shot out of a four-way first-place logjam. Rose Kelley (82) is tied for 18th, Sarah Lejman (84) is tied for 27th and Erica Woodall (88) has a share of 52nd.
Men’s golf in sixth: The IWU men’s golf team posted a 6-over-par 294 and was in a tie for sixth place after opening-round play of the 40-team NCAA Division III men’s championship at the Grandover Resort and Conference Center in Greensboro, N.C. Oglethorpe and St. Johns (Minn.) lead at 2-under 286.
The Titans’ Ryan Dorner and Dex Reese shot even-par 72s and are tied for 21st place. Shane Smith (73) is tied for 30th and Jake Scott (77) is tied for 90th. Oglethorpe’s Craig Steven fired a 6-under-par 66 to take the lead.
