The Heartland College softball team notched two wins in the NJCAA Division II Region 24 Tournament at Mattoon on Saturday to advance to today's noon title game.

If Heartland (33-10) wins today, it advances to the May 15-17 national tournament at Champion Fields in Normal.

Heartland opened with an 11-0 victory over Lincoln College in which Calli Schmidt stroked a two-run home run in the fifth. She finished four-of-five at the plate with two doubles and three runs batted in.

Teammate Jessica Shaefer had a double among her three hits to drive in two runs. Hannah Dow (9-5) scattered four hits while striking out six and walking one.

In the second game, Amber May (16-3) led the Hawks to a 3-1 triumph over Illinois Central College by fanning 12 and walking none. Schmidt provided a two-run homer in the fifth after Kate Singler had hit a solo homer.

"We had several people step up in key situations," said Heartland coach Shae Wesley.
