Illinois State catcher Nick Zouras has been named Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Player of the Week.
Zouras helped ISU earn a share of the MVC regular season title this past weekend with a series victory over Evansville. The senior slashed .538/.538/.769 in the three-game series, going 7-for-13 with three doubles, six RBIs and four runs scored.
The No. 2 seeded Redbirds will open the MVC tournament at 3 p.m. Wednesday against either No. 6 Bradley or No. 8 Southern Illinois at Duffy Bass Field.
Record GPA: Illinois State student-athletes set a semester departmental grade-point average (GPA) record of 3.31 during the spring semester, topping the previous mark of 3.24 set the previous two semesters. Five ISU teams tied or beat their previous team GPA records.
ISU's women's programs combined for a 3.58 cumulative GPA, topping the previous high of 3.54, and the men’s teams combined to earn a 3.08 GPA to set a new department standard.
Lacrosse players honored: Seniors Dani Engelbreit and Grainne Kelly were chosen to the first team while senior Sam Bidlack and sophomores Janaye Godfrey and Riley Rooney are on the second team of the Great Lake All-Region squads named by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA).
Engelbreit led IWU in ground balls with 71 and goals with 55 while adding 24 assists for 79 points. Kelly led the Titans with 87 points on 50 goals and 37 assists. Bidlack had a team-high 46 assists with 26 goals for 72 points.
