Indiana State scored two goals in less than a minute and went on to defeat Illinois State, 2-1, in a Missouri Valley Conference women's soccer match Saturday at Terre Haute, Ind. The loss snapped the Redbirds' five-match winning streak.
ISU (8-6-2, 2-2 MVC) took a 1-0 lead when Mikayla Unger scored on an assist from Kelli Zickert at the 12:58 mark. It was Unger's fourth goal of the season.
Sydney Hamker's goal at the 31:35 mark allowed the Sycamores (6-7-1, 1-3) to tie the match. Indiana State took the lead on Alina Steffen's goal at the 32:36 mark.
Both teams had nine shots. Indiana State had three saves to the Redbirds' one.
Women run 21st, men 26th: The IWU women scored 656 points to place 21st in the 36-team Cowbell Invitational at Elsah. Johns Hopkins won with 74. Clare O'Donnell led IWU on the 6K course in 139th (24:22).
For the men, IWU scored 830 points for 26th among 38 teams. North Central won with 47. Ronan Dorsey paced the Titans on the 8K course in 153rd (27:14).
Soccer matches potsponed: IWU's men's and women's soccer matches at Wheaton were postponed due to heavy overnight rains and continued thunderstorms Saturday. The women's game will be made up Monday at 7:30 p.m., while the men's game has been rescheduled to Oct. 23.
