Illinois State's Jaylan McConico, Kentre Patterson and Derrius Rodgers have qualified for the NCAA Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championships.
McConico and Patterson punched their tickets to the March 9-10 national meet at College Station, Texas during the 60-meter hurdles final at last weekend’s Missouri Valley Championships.
McConico won in 7.64 seconds, setting an ISU and MVC record. The time ranks third nationally. Patterson was runner-up in an NCAA-qualifying 7.75 seconds and is seeded 12th in the nation.
Rodgers qualified in the 60-meter dash for the second straight year with a time of 6.60 seconds in the MVC preliminary round. The time ranks sixth nationally and set an ISU and MVC meet record.
The MVC champion Redbirds moved up 63 spots this week in the USTFCCCA national rankings to No. 30.
Kolaric earns award: ISU junior Igor Kolaric has been named the Summit League Tennis Player of the Week.
Kolaric (9-2) posted five victories last weekend at No. 1 singles and doubles. He defeated UIC’s Niko Wasilewicz, 6-3, 6-3, and Creighton’s Brooks Kendall, 6-2, 6-3, in shutout victories. He also topped DePaul’s Alex Galoustian, 4-6, 6-2, 10-8. Kolaric picked up two doubles wins with partner Christoffer Greve over DePaul and Creighton.
Golanova, Kustkova net MVC honors: The Missouri Valley has chosen Illinois State's Veronika Golanova as singles player of the week for the second week in a row, while the doubles team of the week went to Golanova and partner Jana Kustkova.
This past weekend, Golanova went 3-0 in singles at No. 1 with wins against DePauw, Wright State and Dayton. Golanova and Kustkova paired up for the first time this year at No. 1 doubles and went 2-1 on the weekend.
Women's lacrosse rolls: Riley Rooney and Grainne Kelly scored five goals apiece as the IWU women's lacrosse team rolled to a 21-3 win over Monmouth in its home opener. The Titans also got two goals apiece from Maggie Torres, Dani Engelbreit, Claudia Richman and Abby Kushina.
