Vonnie Tomich Raketic, a standout point guard at Illinois State from 1974-78, was among the Women's Professional Basketball League "trailblazers of the game" honored this past weekend at the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame inductions in Knoxville, Tenn.

The WBL was in operation from 1978-81 and was the first professional women's basketball league in the United States. Tomich Raketic was among about 100 former WBL players and coaches to attend Saturday's ceremony. Each received a commemorative pin and posed for a group photo.

Tomich Raketic earned all-pro honors with the Dayton Rockettes and played in the East-West All-Star Game at New York's Madison Square Garden during her rookie year in the league.

After the Dayton franchise folded, Tomich Raketic played for the California Dreams, St. Louis Streak, Dallas Diamonds and Chicago Hustle in her remaining two years in the league.

Her jersey and photograph previously became part of a display at the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass.
