NORMAL — Illinois State senior tailback James Robinson has received an invitation to the NFL Combine, which is scheduled for Feb. 23 to March 2 in Indianapolis.
The Combine is used by NFL teams to evaluate top college talent leading up to the NFL Draft.
“The Combine answers the question on the measurables for prospects like James, but I think he showed what kind of all-around player he can be with his performance at the East-West Shrine Bowl,” ISU head coach Brock Spack said.

“I know James has been working hard at all the drills he will perform at the Combine and if he can shave some time off his 40 and a couple other drills, he has a chance to really improve his draft stock.”
The Rockford native was selected to play in the East-West Shrine Bowl and produced 80 yards rushing, including a 63-yard touchdown, on seven carries and 56 receiving yards on two catches.
Robinson was among just 12 players from FCS programs to receive a Combine invitation and the only FCS running back.
Edmonton signs Gibbs: The Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League have signed former ISU wide receiver Christian Gibbs.
Gibbs last played for the Redbirds in 2017. He totaled 85 receptions for 1,151 yards and 10 touchdowns over his final two seasons at ISU.
