NORMAL - The 2007 Illinois State Athletics Hall of Fame class spans more than 50 years of athletic achievement, while touching three different decades.
The announcement was made Thursday, and inductees include Frank Purdy (men's tennis), a three-time Interstate Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) singles and doubles champion; Jackie Ryan Beck (women's golf), the 1985 Gateway Conference medalist and two time all-league selection; and Galen Scott (football), current Redbird defensive coordinator and the second-highest career tackler in ISU history.
In addition, longtime bench crew volunteer Jan Johnson will be honored with the Campbell "Stretch" Miller Award. Miller was a Redbird athlete who went on to broadcast Illinois State games in the 1940s before joining the St. Louis Cardinals broadcasting team.
The honorees will be inducted during the Hall of Fame banquet at 8 a.m. Oct. 13 in Bone Student Center. The class will also be recognized during halftime of the Illinois State-Indiana State football game later that day.
