PEORIA - Scott Krapf won the men's 8K race at the Missouri Valley Conference cross country championships Saturday at Newman Golf Course, becoming the first Redbird to capture the individual title since Christian Goy in 2002.
"I made a move early in the race, and I knew I wasn't going to look back," said Krapf. "Today represents a culmination of my whole running career."
Krapf covered the course in 25 minutes, 47 seconds and earned All-Missouri Valley Conference honors. He was the only men's runner to cross the finish line before the 26-minute mark.
Krapf led the men's team to a third-place finish with 74 points behind champion Indiana State and runner-up Southern Illinois. ISU runners Matt Mroczynski (26:44) and Jon Roberts (26:46) were 12th and 13th, respectively.
The women's team took second place with 86 points finishing behind Wichita State. ISU was led by top-10 finishes by juniors Sarah Glowacki and Kirsten Lang as both earned All-Valley honors for the first time.
Glowacki finished the 5K race in a time of 19:13 (8th), while Lang was a second behind in 10th place.
