IWU men fifth, women ninth in Div. III golf championships

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The Illinois Wesleyan men's golf team finished fifth and the women placed ninth Saturday in the final round of the NCAA Division III championships at Port St. Lucie, Fla.

The IWU men finished at 298-1187 behind senior Bennett Blakeman, who tied for eighth place individually with a 5-over 293 after closing with a 75.

Oglethorpe captured the team at 289-1164. Mitchell Fedorka of LaVerne 73-285 Oglethorpe's Olafur Loftsson 69-285 shared the individual title.

IWU's Mike DeRuntz tied for 16th (73-296), Chris Green tied for 27th (75-298), Ryan Dorner finished 41st (75-303) and Matt Wennmaker tied for 94th (85-316).

The Titan women finished at 328-1313 behind senior Nicole Spear, who tied for 12th (86-319). Methodist won the team championship for the 12th straight season with a score of 316-1257. Susan Martin of Methodist was the individual champion (77-294).

IWU's Lindsey Haines tied for 21st (79-325), Erica Woodall was 49th (82-333), Alessandra Bollero tied for 77th (81-343) and Maddie Murphy tied for 91st (86-353).
