ISU's Petranoff takes 8th in javelin

Illinois State's Leigh Petranoff finished eighth in the javelin with a throw of 144 feet, 11 inches, at the NCAA Mideast Regional Track and Field Championships in Louisville.

Senior Samantha Springer of Tremont placed 10th in the women's discus (161-5) inches, 17th in the hammer throw (178-11) and 39th in the shot put. Michelle Brunk finished 24th in the women's 800-meter run (2:17.14), Tori Ziegler was 34th in the shot put (49-0.25, No. 2 all-time at ISU) and Kirsten Lang was 12th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:51.50).

The top five finishers in each region receive automatic bids to the June 10-13 NCAA Track and Field National Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., June 10-13. Anyone that finishes 6-12 in each region will be placed in an at-large pool and will be accepted based on their season-best performances by the NCAA championships committee.
