Illinois State's Sade Sealy earned the 2011 Outstanding Women's Track Athlete and Tim Glover was named the Outstanding Men's Field Athlete Sunday on the final day of competition at the 2011 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at Northern Iowa University in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
The Redbird women finished in third place as a team with a total of 159 points, while the men placed fifth with 85 total points. Wichita State won the women's championship with a total of 194 points while Indiana State placed first on the men's side with 168 points.
Sealy continued to dominate the 400 meter dash in the Valley and did so by setting a school record. Sealy won the conference title with a personal best time of 53.48, breaking her previous record of 53.75 set during last year's Valley Championships. The sophomore has claimed four conference titles over the past two years in the 400. Sealy later ran to all-conference accolades in the 200 with a third place showing in a personal best time of 24.30.
Glover earned All-Valley honors and registered the nation's top men's javelin throw this season with a mark of 258-09, setting new Missouri Valley Conference, MVC Outdoor Championship and school records. The Normal native and University High product has now won back-to-back conference titles.
Jess Husted won the 1,500-meter run and All-Valley honors with a personal best time of 4:24.74. The women's 4X400-meter relay team of Jenna Combs, Shandel Ellis, Jordan Frey and Tia Harvey won the conference title with a time of 3:41.
Several Redbirds will now wait until the NCAA announces on Thursday if their season best marks qualify them for the West Regional in Eugene, Ore.
