KANKAKEE - Daniel Howerton led six players in double figures with 19 points as Calvary Baptist Academy topped Kankakee Trinity, 90-56, Saturday in the third-place game of the Association of Christian Schools International East Regional Basketball Tournament.
Tommy Horine added 16 points, Josh Borst and Grant Touma 13 each, Zach Howerton 11 and Jack Campbell 10 for Calvary Baptist (9-16), which suffered an 83-54 semifinal loss to Grace Baptist earlier in the day.
Borst's 22 points led the fourth-seeded Crusaders against No. 1 seed Grace Baptist, with Zach Howerton adding 15.
"The first game was rough. We had a couple of runs to keep it to 13, 14 points in the third quarter, but we kind of ran out of steam," said Calvary Baptist coach Michael Touma. "The third-place game is tough to play in mentally. But we came out and shot the ball extremely well."
The Crusaders advanced to the semifinals by defeating Cornerstone Christian, 66-46, Friday night. Grant Touma scored 16 points and Horine 12 in that contest.
Calvary Baptist concludes its season Tuesday with a home game against Arthur Mennonite.
