NORMAL - Junior guard Alex Tanney scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Lexington High School boys basketball team past Calvary Baptist 71-38 in a nonconference game Friday night.
Lexington (3-0) jumped out to a 27-9 lead and Calvary Baptist (3-4) could never recover as Lexington extended the advantage to 43-22 at the half and 53-32 after three quarters.
"Lexington is a tough team," said Calvary Baptist coach Michael Touma. "We played well in the second and third quarters, but once we got down we couldn't get out of it. You can't give a team like Lexington that kind of lead."
Sophomore Josh Borst led the Crusaders with team highs of nine points and four steals. Daniel Howerton and Tommy Horine each added eight points. Horine led Calvary Baptist on the boards with five rebounds.
Chris Mohr added 10 points for Lexington while Eric Schuler finished with eight.
"This was a good experience for us to play that type of competition," Touma added. "It will make us better when we get into conference play. We'll rebound and go get 'em next week."
