BLOOMINGTON A strong start and sturdy rebounding served Normal Epiphany well Thursday in a 36-27 victory over Midland in the third-place game of the Illinois Elementary School Association Class 8A State Basketball Tournament at Central Catholic High School.

Epiphany led 13-2 after one quarter and held on to finish its season at 24-3.

"We came out with a lot of intensity and hit the boards hard," Coach David Schmitt said. "The first quarter we surprised them with our defense. They made some adjustments at half and made it a good, close game."

Carly Norton and Christin Neill paced Epiphany with 12 points each. Haley Cook chipped in seven points and joined Norton with 17 rebounds.

Neill added four assists and four steals, while Julie Schmitt had seven rebounds.

Sondra Monier scored 10 points and Jordan Jason nine for Midland.

Brimfield defeated Jacksonville Our Savior, 54-35, in the championship game.
