2001: Illinois State's Tarise Bryson was named Player of the Year in the Missouri Valley Conference by an overwhelming margin and teammate Shedrick Ford, a junior college transfer, was named to the all-newcomer team. Evansville's Jeremy Stanton, a University High graduate, was on the all-defensive team for the third time.
1991: Illinois State basketball player Reggie Wilson, a 6-foot-6 junior college transfer from Lincoln College, was named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year. Central Catholic guard Vicki Adelman was named to the first team of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association's all-state squad.
1981: Thanks mainly to the strong outside bombing and clutch free throw shooting of Mike McNeely and Brian Tria, Heyworth ended Central Catholic's 20-game regional winning streak with a 64-61 triumph in the championship game of the Clinton Class A Regional. McNeely led all scorers with 30 points.
1956: Curt Raydon, Bloomington's gift to the National League, beat the snowstorm out of town for Fort Myers, Fla., where the Pittsburgh Pirates train and by the time you read these lines he should be in a pepper game with Manager Bobby Bragan. Raydon had a 14-10 record for Class AA New Orleans last season.
