2001: Matt Roth of Willowbrook knocked off defending champion Seth Livingston of Bloomington, 7-4, in a classic battle of unbeaten heavyweights in the 275-pound state Class AA title match. Clinton's Tyrone Byrd (171) and Matt Chapman (135) and Olympia's Josh Collins (125) won Class A state titles.
1991: Bloomington native Chris Lee cleared 6 feet, 8 inches to take first place in the high jump for Mount Union College at the recent Baldwin-Wallace Invitational. Lee is a junior at Mount Union.
1981: Flanagan's young and resilient Falcons proved they're for real, thumping Lexington 56-32 in a Midstate Conference game. Flanagan's Bill Braksick scored three baskets in the game's first 79 seconds, added three more in the final 1:39 of the first period, and finished with 22 points.
1956: Freshman Jim Moore swished a short jump shot with five seconds remaining to give Fairbury High School a 67-66 victory over Lexington and an undisputed Midstate Conference basketball championship - the school's first in the league's seven-year history.
