5 years ago (2002): Lexington's Mark Anderson took the lead on lap 10 from high running Roger Long, and then held off Pontiac's Ron Donaldson for the late model feature win at the Fairbury American Legion Speedway. Chatsworth's Lance Dehm, El Paso's Ryan Unzicker and Colfax's Ryan Retter won other feature races.
15 years ago (1992): The Bloomington American Legion Post 56 varsity baseball team erupted for six first-inning runs en route to an 8-3 win over Woodford County. Josh Roop's two-run triple capped the uprising and helped Bloomington improve to 11-2.
25 years ago (1982): Dean Graven, head track and field and cross country coach at Bloomington High School, resigned to accept a job with Amtrec, a national fund-raising organization. Graven, 25, led the BHS track program for three years and was head cross country coach for four years.
50 years ago (1957): Bob Beal, former Normal Community High School athlete, pitched a no-hit, no-run game as the Bloomington Indees walloped Heyworth, 19-0, in Corn Belt League baseball. Fritz Baum drove in six runs with four hits including a homer and two doubles.
