2001: University High freshman Ashlee Pistorius, deadly both in the open court and in half-court sets, scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Pioneers to a convincing 59-48 upset of No. 3 Rock Island Alleman in the Class A state tournament quarterfinals at Redbird Arena.
1991: Bloomington's Mike Straza was named Athlete of the Meet at the Missouri Valley Conference indoor track meet. The Illinois State distance runner followed up a victory in the 5,000-meter run by taking first place in the 3,000 meters. ISU finished second to host Southern Illinois.
1981: McKay Smith and Anthony Jones spearheaded Illinois State's 62-53 victory over Cleveland State. Smith played 40 minutes and held All-American guard Frank Edwards to 15 points, nine under his average. Jones put a damper on 6-foot-11 Darren Tillis, holding him to four points, nearly 13 below his average.
1956: Defending champion Roanoke High School singed the nets with 20 points in a three-minute overtime period to blister Gridley, 94-80, in a district semifinal. Six players scored in double figures for the Rockets including freshman Bill Small, who didn't start but totaled 20 points.
