2001: Tarise Bryson scored 28 points to lead Illinois State over Wichita State, 79-71, for the Redbirds' 20th victory in 27 games. It marks the fifth time in the last seven seasons and the 13th time in the last 26 campaigns ISU has won 20 games. The Redbirds tied Bradley for second place in the Missouri Valley Conference.
1991: Brady Knight rallied University High with eight straight points after Mike Hartke's thunderous dunk had given underdog Heyworth a six-point lead midway through the fourth quarter, and U High emerged with a 68-66 overtime victory in the Olympia Class A Sectional semifinals.
1981: Mike Payne of top-ranked and undefeated Quincy and Uwe Blab, 7-2 center for Effingham, were unanimous choices on the Associated Press Class AA All-State high school basketball team. Lincoln's senior guard Dan Duff was also on the 12-man first team.
1956: With only two teams yet to bowl, Rowe Construction Company holds the lead in the City Bowling Tournament with a handicap score of 3116. Members of the leading team are Don Kirby, Andy Wiggers, Charles Murray, Lyle Walden and George Godard. The remaining teams will bowl March 17.
