2000: Jack Horenberger, who won numerous games and made even more friends for Illinois Wesleyan for 38 years, died at his home after a six-month bout with lung cancer. Horenberger, 87, touched thousands of lives during 21 years as basketball coach, 37 years as baseball coach and 34 years as athletics director.

1990: Normal Community's disciplined basketball team used an aggressive first half of defense and an even more devastating 3-point shooting attack to level Urbana, 79-40. Senior Chad Hutson tied a career high with six 3-point field goals and finished with 29 points to lead NCHS, which made 9 of 20 3-point attempts.
1980: Dale White, the marksman with a telescopic sight in his finger tips, shot the whites out of their eyes with a career-high 30 points as Illinois State turned back an excellent Mississippi Valley State basketball team, 94-72. The 6-foot-5 junior drilled 11 of 16 shots from the field and made 8 of 9 free throws.
1955: Illinois State Normal threw in 116 points and stopped McKendree College with 100 to win its opening game. A guy on this State Normal club named Al Meyer scored 51 points for a school record. He's the captain so we guess he's got a right to score a lot.
