5 years ago (2002): In his job as McLean County Assistant State's Attorney, John Prior sees young men every day he believes could benefit from the lessons and discipline wrestling provides. Next year he will share his passion for the sport as head wrestling coach at University High School.

15 years ago (1992): Brothers Mike and Matt Morkin, natives of Bloomington, pulled out a 7-4 tiebreaker win in the second set to capture the men's open doubles title in the Twin City Open tennis meet. They defeated Matt Powers and Bill Gaffigan of Springfield, 6-3, 7-6.

25 years ago (1982): Aided by a grand-slam by Ken Labedz, Bloomington's Louis E. Davis, the American Legion Post 56 baseball team earned a 7-3 victory over Galesburg. Bloomington starter Brian Metz shut out Galesburg over the last three innings to clinch the victory.

50 years ago (1957): Medalist Morgan Evans of Bloomington dropped an overtime match to former champion Norando Nannini of Highwood in the second round of the Illinois Men's Amateur Golf Tournament. Nannini canned a two-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole moments after Evans' 30-foot birdie try stopped inches short.
