5 years ago (2002): Bloomington High School junior David Marquardt holed three birdies on the back nine en route to a 1-under-par 71 and a one-shot lead entering the final round of the boys 16-17 age division in the inaugural Country Youth Classic at The Den at Fox Creek Golf Course.

15 years ago (1992): Steve King, a former baseball standout at Normal Community High School and Illinois Wesleyan University, is leading the Bloomington Hearts major fastpitch softball team with a .375 batting average, eight home runs and six triples. He also has driven in 26 runs for the 36-6 Hearts.

25 years ago (1982): Mitchell Turnbull of Bloomington earned his second championship in as many days by winning the 12-and-under age division at the Livingston Area Tennis Club McDonald's Open at Pontiac. He defeated Geneva's Paul Garvin, 6-3, 6-4.

50 years ago (1957): Morgan Evans, a former Bloomington city champion, shot a par 72 for a 36-hole total of 145 to take medalist honors in the Illinois Amateur Golf Championship at Savoy Golf Course. Evans' total was three shots better than that of his nearest challenger.
