2000: Operating at will inside against a diminuative Lincoln team, 6-foot-11, 310-pound Eddy Curry scored a game-high 30 points and powered top-seeded Thornwoood to a hard-earned 51-40 victory over the fifth-seeded Railsplitters in the Class AA semifinals of the State Farm Holiday Classic at Shirk Center.
1990: Sparked by "young guns" Jason Sweeney and Jason Messamore, Central Catholic beat Peoria Heights 69-57 for third place in the Clinton Holiday Tournament. Top-seeded Olympia lost the title game in overtime to Decatur St. Teresa, 72-60.
1980: Normal Community needed an overtime to dispose of Stephen Decatur, 71-63, while unbeaten Lincoln (8-0) exploded for 23 points in the final quarter to subdue scrappy Mendota, 79-66, in the first round of the Illinois State Classic. Speedy guard Steve DeVore with 21 points instigated Normal's victory.
1955: The ever-brilliant Tom Adams paced Washington High School to an 81-72 decision over Alton as the Panthers won the 25th annual Pontiac Holiday Tournament. Adams led Washington with 37 points and dominated the rebounding under both boards.
