5 years ago (2001): After walking three and allowing two runs, Illinois Wesleyan star pitcher Steve Schilsky struck out two batters with the bases loaded to escape further damage. Then he settled in, striking out 12 to lead the Titans to a 10-3 second-round victory over Westminster in the NCAA Division III Central Regional.

15 years ago (1991): Bloomington High School’s Dennis Alexander and Bryan Edmunds won the Bloomington Sectional tennis doubles title and solidified their claim as the Intercity’s best doubles team in the process. A 7-3 tiebreaker win in the second set gave them a 6-4, 7-6 victory over Normal Community’s Roger Juers and Johnny Lin.

25 years ago (1981): A showcase of area high school track and field talent will be on display tonight when Normal Community High School plays host to its annual Honor Roll Meet at Truman Keys Field. Individuals from 20 area schools will take part in the affair.

50 years ago (1956): Trinity High School captured its first district baseball championship in school history by pounding out a 13-7 victory over University High at Fred Carlton Field. Mac Comte ran his victory string to eight in a row but needed help from Keith Arteman in the sixth inning.
