2001: Normal Community High School's girls basketball team came back from a five-point halftime deficit to defeat Normal West, 58-52, in a Big 12 Conference contest. The victory marked the first for NCHS over West since the high schools split before the 1995-96 season.
1991: Chad Hutson scored 26 points - 54 percent of his team's output - and made all six of his free throws in the final 1:01 to lead Normal Community's basketball team over Decatur MacArthur, 48-46. The league-leading Ironmen moved their Big 12 record to 10-2 and their overall mark to 16-3.
1981: The Bloomington-Normal Internationals soccer team captured its second tournament title in as many days by winning the 12-team ISU Classic with a 3-1 win over the Peoria Kickers at Horton Field House. Okan Altiparmak had eight goals for ISU during the day's action.
1956: Lloyd Armstrong of the Pekin Times calls Lincoln's old gymnasium "a coal mine with lights." However, the Lincoln folks are planning a new gym that will have no superiority in the country. Now we hope the board of education here will give BHS a building in keeping with an All-American community.
