BLOOMINGTON — Defending champions Logan Stauffer and Joe Rieger cruised to a 6 and 4 victory over Doug Simpson and Tyler Schneider in a Bloomington-Normal Two-Man Best Position championship flight first-round match Tuesday at Prairie Vista Golf Course.

Stauffer and Rieger face Ben Kilborn and Sean Dozier in the second round.

Five other matches were played Tuesday as the first round concluded.

Tyler Weaver and Alan Bardwell, the 2016 champions, took a 4 and 3 victory over Josh Guin and Aaron Hrovat. They will meet Todd Manning and Jim Mounce, who earned a 2 and 1 victory over Dan Freed and Elston Mitchell, in the next round.

Twins Michael and Branden Mounce, who lost in last year's finals, downed Tom Blumenshine and Jason Veselack, 5 and 4. Tom Oshinski and Nathan Jackson are next up for the Mounces.

Matt Gumm and John McGrew advanced by downing Steve and Cody Kindred, 3 and 2. Gumm and McGrew will square off against another father-son tandem, Gary and Bryan Brucker, who moved on with a forfeit win over Mike Henry and Dustin Hoffmeier.

Second-round matches must be played by Thursday.
