BLOOMINGTON - Heidi Harnisch and Amanda Glerum each sank five 3-pointers to lead the Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team to a 61-53 nonconference victory over Central (Iowa) Saturday at Shirk Center.
The Titans improved to 6-2 with their fifth straight victory. Harnisch paced IWU with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Glerum added 15 points and Val Fleishman 12 points and six rebounds.
"You never apologize for a win, but it wasn't very pretty," said IWU coach Mia Smith. "We needed it. It kept our win streak going. Heidi and Amanda shot the ball very well. Heidi played that game with the flu. A bunch of our kids are sick now, so it's good to get a win.
"I told Heidi to save her energy for offense and not worry about defense, and she took me to heart."
IWU, which led 37-24 at halftime, shot 36.8 percent from the field (21 of 57) and held Central to 33.3 percent (20 of 60).
Stephanie Snitker led Central (0-5) with 14 points.
The Titans will take a week off for final examinations before traveling to face Nebraska Wesleyan on Dec. 18 at Lincoln, Neb., which is Harnisch's hometown.
