Freshman Ryann Anderson scored three goals to lead the Normal Community High School girls soccer team to a 5-0 Big 12 Conference win over host Champaign Central on Thursday.

Caelyn Steffens and Shannon Tomlinson also added goals for the Iron (12-0-2, 7-0). Megan Seger had two assists for NCHS. 

Normal West wins: Melanie Bautista and Jess Hieb scored two goals apiece to spark Normal West (10-3-2, 7-0-0) to an 8-0 victory over host Champaign Centennial (6-8, 3-3).

Also scoring for the Wildcats were Olivia Peters, Maddie Bergeron, Annastacia Hollins and Rylee Billington. Assists came from Bergeron (two), Peters, Hollins and Julia Marsaglia.

BHS blanks Peoria: Paige Gardner and Denice Watts each scored twice for Bloomington (4-9-3, 1-4-2) in a 7-0 win over visiting Peoria (1-10, 1-5).

Other goals came from Bronwen Boyd, Grace Barbee and Tierra Shickel. Providing assists were Gardner, Darlease Watts, Anna Diaz and Inez Ortega.

Central tops Olympia: Central Catholic received goals from Lauren Shanks, Caroline O'Connor and Taryn Shanahan in defeating Olympia, 3-0, at Stanford.

Shanks had the only assist for the Saints (8-7-1).

U High falls: Meredith Heller's two goals were not enough as University High (6-4) lost to visiting East Moline, 3-2. Cassie Trosino provided one assist for the Pioneers.

SOFTBALL

Vetter, Saints win: Reliever Izzy Vetter fanned seven in 2⅔ innings and stroked a solo home run in the sixth inning to spark Central Catholic (20-3, 6-1) to a 2-1, eight-inning victory over host Rantoul (9-11, 2-4). Leah Eppley had two of the Saints' eight hits.

Leonard, NCHS triumph: Mackenzie Leonard (11-0) fanned eight in six innings to spark host Normal Community (12-2, 5-0) to a 7-0 victory over Danville (7-9, 1-3). She helped her cause with a two-run home run in the first inning.

Makenzie Nelson had three of the Iron's eight hits.

Eureka swamps Dee-Mack: Maddie McCunn had three hits and two RBIs for Eureka in a 16-3, five-inning victory over host Deer Creek-Mackinaw. Morgan Greene and Alison Nohl had three RBIs apiece for the Hornets (9-5, 4-2).

Tri-Valley tops Fieldcrest: Tri-Valley won a pitchers' dual, 3-1, over Fieldcrest as the Vikings' Izzy Mata fanned 11 and the Knights' Emma Lorton struck out 10, both in seven innings. 

Olympia nips Prairie Central: Amber Graf homered for Prairie Central's only run, but Olympia defeated the Hawks, 2-1, at Stanford. 

Fox, Pontiac win: Amanda Fox belted a home run, while also striking out 14 in Pontiac's 6-2 win at Monticello.

BASEBALL

NCHS clobbers Peoria: Preston King had two hits and three RBIs for Normal Community (12-4, 4-2) in a 12-2, five-inning victory over visiting Peoria High (2-10, 0-7).

Brady Fletcher and Caleb Zbrozek added two hits apiece for the Ironmen, who saw Brendan Short (1-0) get the victory.

West falls: Normal West (11-8) received three hits from Ben Smith, but dropped a 9-5 decision to Washington (13-7) at Normal.

Brandon Roth had two of West's eight hits, while losing pitcher Austin Collnson (3-2) had a double and two RBIs.

Raiders lose: Bloomington rallied to within a run with a three-run sixth inning, but Champaign Central pulled away once more in the seventh for a 7-3 win at the Corn Crib.

Ethan Crutcher had two RBIs for BHS (9-9, 1-4).

Tri-Valley tips Central: Matt Mier had two hits and was named the game's most valuable player as Tri-Valley edged Central Catholic, 5-3, at the Corn Crib.

Mier struck out seven in 5⅔ innings before getting relief help from Jake Reeser, who got the save.

Ridgeview wins: Sean Nunnamaker struck out 14 in Ridgeview's 8-1 win over Judah Christian at Champaign. R.J. Benefiel had three hits for the Mustangs (5-9).

Houser, Blue Ridge top Hartem: Dane Houser pitched a five-inning no-hitter and struck out 10 in leading Blue Ridge to an 18-0, five-inning win over Hartsburg-Emden at Farmer City. Houser also had two hits and three RBIs. Sam Duggins and Zach Stephens also had three RBIs for the Knights.

Wade, Clinton win: Jake Wade (3-2) fanned 14 and walked none while pitching Clinton (5-7, 3-3) to an 11-1 victory at Decatur St. Teresa.

TRACK

Taylor dominates discus: Mount Pulaski's Peyton Taylor threw the discus a meet record 179 feet, 0 inches in the Tomahawk Conference Meet at Glasford. The previous record of 165-7 was set by Matt Wrage of Delavan-Hartsburg-Emden in 2004.

Delavan swept the boys (138) and girls (162) team titles. Delavan's Katie Springer won the 800 (2:25.90), 100 hurdles (17.31), 300 hurdles (47.43) and long jump (15-0).

Ridgeview girls win: The host school scored 178 points to win the eight-team Ridgeview Girls Invitational at Colfax. Blue Ridge was second with 100. Mya Tinlsey led the Mustangs with wins in the 100 (12.8) and 200 (26.7). Teammate Jayden Standish won the discus (102-7) and 800 (2:46.9).
