Mason Burns and Will Dowell combined on a perfect game as the Normal Community High School baseball team posted a 10-0, five-inning Big 12 Conference win over Peoria High at Peoria on Tuesday.
Burns (2-0) struck out 11 and walked none in four innings. Dowell fanned two with no walks in the final inning.
Nick Stoner led the offense with four hits, including two doubles, and drove in three runs. Jacob Newberry added two hits and Nick Gilhaus had a two-run homer.
The Ironmen (8-2, 2-1) also won the second game, 16-6, in five innings. Sam Kahwaji had a two-run home run among his three hits and drove in three runs. Gilhaus (3-0) got the win and had two hits and three RBIs.
U High wins one-hitter: Nate Hardman and Jack Feely combined on a one-hitter as University High posted a 5-2 Central State Eight Conference win at Jacksonville. Hardman allowed one hit and two runs, one earned, in four innings. Feely got the save, striking out four in three hitless innings.
The offense was led by Jacob Mote's home run, single and RBI. Jack Sauser added two hits and two RBIs.
Hernandez keys West win: Cole Hernandez had two doubles among his three hits and drove in a run as Normal West edged host Washington, 4-3.
Austin Collinson added two doubles and an RBI for the Wildcats (9-4). Will Kafer (4-0) got the win in relief, allowing one hit and no runs in 2⅔ innings.
Lincoln one-hits BHS: Alex Bogdanic allowed one hit in four innings and reliever Nate Arnold worked three no-hit innings to spark Lincoln (5-4) to a 5-0 victory at Bloomington (3-10).
Caleb Kennel had the lone hit against Bogdanic, who fanned six while Arnold fanned seven. Arnold also had two doubles and an RBI.
Berges fuels Olympia: Hunter Berges pitched a five-hitter and also had four hits, including two triples, and four RBIs in Olympia's 9-0 home win over Tremont.
Bennett paces LeRoy: Gabe Bennett had three hits, including a double, and drove in a run in LeRoy's 6-1 home win over Heyworth. Nate Sammer pitched six shutout innings with eight strikeouts.
U High romps: Jen Kuhn (7-0) fanned 11 and walked one while tossing a three-hitter for University High (13-1) in a 14-0, five-inning victory at Jacksonville. Emily O'Leary led the Pioneers' 13-hit attack with four hits and two RBIs.
Hahn powers LeRoy: Haillie Hahn had a home run and a double among her four hits and drove in four runs in LeRoy's 13-3 win at Urbana.
Dwight wins: Rachel Heath had four hits including a double and a triple for Dwight in a 15-10 victory at Clifton Central. Winning pitcher Katy Edwards had three hits and three RBIs.
Streator tips Herscher: Anna Yanek had two of Streator's six hits in a a 5-4 victory at Herscher.
Saints tie St. Teresa: Sammie Shanks' goal with 11:40 left pulled Central Catholic (6-5-1) into a 3-3 tie with visiting Decatur St. Teresa (11-1-1). Her goal was preceded by sister Lauren Shanks' shot off the cross bar.
Lauren Shanks finished with two goals, one of which was assisted by Kaylie Eckhoff. The Bulldogs outshot Central, 23-10, as Saint goalie Kylee Hadley made 12 saves.
Normal West breezes: Gabby Parra had four goals and Kaitlyn Edwards two for Normal West (5-4-1, 3-0) in a 12-0 Big 12 Conference victory over visiting Peoria.
Also scoring were Rylee Billington, Audrey Marsaglia, Arya Gandhi, Olivia Teplitz-Crawford, Sadie Emmert and Jennifer Manzella. Providing one assist each were Annastacia Hollins, Madison Bergeron, Alexis Evans, Parra and Manzella.
U High blanks Jacksonville: Meredith Heller had two goals as University High (4-4-1, 3-2) topped visiting Jacksonville, 4-0.
Also scoring were Bree Cordray and Celeste Noraian. Assists came from Alison Heller and Noraian.
Notre Dame edges NCHS: Peoria Notre Dame scored off a corner kick in the 18th minute of the second half to down Normal Community, 1-0, in a Big 12 Conference showdown at Peoria to hand the Iron their first loss of the season.
Both teams had eight shots on goal. NCHS (7-1-1, 2-1) received seven saves from Savannah Henson. Notre Dame improved to 5-2-1 overall.
BHS battles to tie: Denise Watts scored off an assist by Hailey Eddington with 25 minutes left to give visiting Bloomington a 1-0 lead, but Urbana scored on a penalty kick with eight minutes remaining as the teams settled for a 1-all tie in a Big 12 Conference match.
There were only three shots on goal by both teams, with Grace Marcy making two saves for the Purple Raiders (5-6-1, 1-0-1).
