Lizzy Davis belted a grand slam in the fourth inning to lead the Olympia High School softball team to a 9-2 win over Central Catholic in an Illini Prairie Conference game on Monday at Stanford.
Colby Burt added three hits, including a double, for the Spartans, who had 10 hitse. Kate Finchum had two hits and two RBIs.
Winning pitcher Kaelyn Leverson relinquished just three hits and struck out 12. Bailey Coffman took the loss for Central Catholic.
Garrels, Tri-Valley top Heyworth: Sydney Garrels' home run highlighted a six-run third inning for Tri-Valley in the Vikings' 6-3 Heart of Illinois Conference win at Heyworth.
Eberle leads GCMS: Madi Eberle struck out 11 and limited LeRoy to two hits while belting a home run in GCMS' 6-0 HOIC win at LeRoy. Lindsey Heinz also homered for the Falcons.
Olympia edges Saints: Olympia pushed across a pair of runs in the fifth inning on a Hayden Stork sacrifice fly to claim a 5-3 Illini Prairie Conference win over Central Catholic at Stanford.
Andrew Nichols struck out 11 and got the win after giving up eight hits and two earned runs. One of the Saints' eight hits was a home run by Zach Tomerlin to help Central to a three-run fourth inning. That gave the Saints a 3-2 lead after Olympia's Sam Litwiller had homered in the third to give the Spartans an early advantage.
Olympia knotted the score at 3-3 with a run in the fourth. Central pitchers Patrick Namoff and Samuel Tallen limited Olympia to four hits with Namoff taking the loss. Tallen held Olympia hitless over the final two innings.
GCMS rallies: Josh Nuss delivered a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh to give GCMS a 6-5 HOIC win over Ridgeview at Gibson City. The Falcons rallied from a 5-3 deficit to win. A Layne Harden home run pulled GCMS to within 5-4 prior to Nuss' game-winning hit.
