Jack Feely hurled a no-hitter, fanning nine and walking none in University High School's 22-0, five-inning victory at Springfield Southeast on Tuesday.

Brendan Tupper led the Pioneers' seven-hit attack with two hits and two RBIs. Daniel Mosele also drove in two runs.

West falls at Pekin: Cody Hardt doubled and belted a solo home run for Normal West in a 6-4 nonconference loss at Pekin.

Cole Hernandez had two RBIs for the Wildcats (1-3), who also received two hits and an RBI from Austin Collinson.

Evan Hutson shut out Pekin over the final two innings in relief of losing pitcher C.J. Lewis (0-2) and starter Sean Shook.

BHS drops opener: Despite a triple and one RBI from Nick Sharp, Bloomington lost its season opener, 16-2, in five innings to visiting Morton (1-0).

Berges, Olympia edge Washington: Sophomore Hunter Berges shut out host Washington on four hits in the Spartans' 2-0 win. 

Heyworth bests Blue Ridge: Chase Ditchen had a triple and three RBIs to lead Heyworth (2-2) to a 13-3, six-inning victory over Blue Ridge (2-1) at Farmer City.

Fieldcrest prevails: McKoy Allen fanned eight, walked none and allowed one hit to spark Fieldcrest to a 12-0 victory at Henry. Derek May and Noah Nordstrom drove in two runs apiece for the Knights, who got two hits each from Hayden Carls and Michael Morse.

Woodland loses: Jake Albertson had four hits and two RBIs for Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell in a 5-4 loss to Earlville-Leland at Earlville.

Clinton loses: Logan Petersen had two doubles and one RBI for Clinton (0-1) in a 9-3 loss to Mahomet-Seymour at Mahomet.

Prairie Central wins: Carter Nowak had two hits including a triple to drive in three runs for Prairie Central in a 4-2 victory over PBL at Paxton.


Anderson, NCHS triumph: Ryann Anderson had two goals and one assist to spark Normal Community to a 5-0, season-opening victory over visiting Washington (0-2).

The Lady Iron also received two goals from Shannon Tomlinson and one from Grace Blair. Blair also had an assist. Other assists came from Maggie Peters and Grace Spader. NCHS outshot its guest, 22-2.

Goalie Savannah Henson had two saves for the Iron.

U High romps past Southeast: University High received hat tricks from Julia Herrman and Meredith Heller in a 10-0 win over Springfield Southeast at Normal. Heller also had three assists and Herrman two in the Pioneers' opening day victory.

Bree Cordray contributed two goals and two assists. Olivia Checchi and Allison Heller also scored for the Pioneers while Evie Redell added three assists. U High outshot Southeast, 21-0.

Metamora trips Central: Central Catholic (1-2) received two goals from Lauren Shanks in a 4-2 loss at Metamora (2-0). Anna Morris had an assist for the Saints, who outshot their host, 16-7.

BHS blanked: Host Pekin won, 7-0, over Bloomington (1-2).


U High wins 1-hitter: Maddie Roop tossed a four-inning one-hitter, striking out six and walking two as University High blanked host Springfield Southeast, 23-0.

Abby Knight had five of the Pioneers' 20 hits to drive in four runs. Roop also had four RBIs off of four hits, two of which were doubles. Brooke Cordrey added two doubles while Lana Williams had two hits and three RBIs.

Standish slam leads Lexington: Illinois State recruit Jayden Standish belted a grand slam in support of the one-hit pitching of Hannah Crouch to lead Lexington-Ridgeview to a 13-3 win over Dwight at Lexington.

Eureka tops Midland: Delaney Phillips tossed a three-hitter and had two hits herself while Madisyn Hack provided two hits and three RBIs as Eureka (2-0) won, 13-2, in five innings over Midland (0-1) at Varna. Savannah Hack chipped in two hits and two RBIs for the Hornets.

Ward, Mata key Tri-Valley: Lexi Ward and three hits and three RBIs while pitcher Izzy Mata limited Clinton to one hit in the Vikings' 4-1 win at Clinton.

Seling sparks Dee-Mack: Winning pitcher Tyah Seling helped her own cause with five hits including a home run and a triple to drive in five runs for Deer Creek-Mackinaw in a 15-7 decision over visiting Peoria Richwoods. Teammate Hannah Webb had three hits and three RBIs while Marleigh Kuhn had two doubles to drive in three runs.

Heyworth falls: A 12-strikeout pitching effort by Adyson Slayback wasn't enough as Heyworth lost, 2-1, in 10 innings to Midwest Central at Manito. Slayback and Madison Riley each had two hits.
