Normal West High School baseball coach Chris Hawkins picked up the 499th victory of his 19-year career on Saturday as the Wildcats (11-4, 2-0) won, 5-0, over visiting Champaign Central (12-5, 2-2).
Cody Hardt and Alec McGinnis each had two of West's eight hits. Starter Austin Collinson (2-2) got the win after scattering six hits over 6.1 innings.
The Wildcats return to action with a doubleheader at Peoria High on Thursday.
NCHS sweeps Danville: Normal Community (10-2, 3-1) watched Will Dowell (2-0) pitch a five-inning no-hitter during a 12-0 victory over visiting Danville. NCHS also won the first game, 8-4.
Dowell fanned four and walked one. Jack Schirpke and Preston King each had two hits and two RBIs. Alex Zogg also drove in two runs.
Nick Stoner had two hits and two RBIs in the first game for the Ironmen. Reliever Griffin McCluskey (2-1) fanned six in four innings of no-hit pitching. McCluskey and Jaob Newberry drove in two runs apiece.
BHS drops Peoria: Ben Wellman had three hits, including two doubles, to drive in one run for Bloomington (4-10, 1-1) during an 8-4 victory over visiting Peoria High. Daniel Ferrier had two of the Purple Raiders' six hits. Matt Steers (1-0) got the win on the mound.
TRACK AND FIELD
Doud, BHS triumph: Led by Nick Doud's school record in the 1,600-meter run, Bloomington scored 92 points to win the 28-team Capital City Classic at Springfield by 10 points over Evanston. Normal Community was fourth (47) and University High ninth (24).
Doud won in 4:19.69 to break Clint Kaeb's 1994 record of 4:20.3. Other BHS winners were Drew Crooks in the 400 (50.71), C.J. Hyde in the 110 high hurdles (15.18) and Tyler McGill in the pole vault (14-0).
Dishon Hall of NCHS won the triple jump (45-9).
Wetzel 3rd for Normal West: Charlie Wetzel placed third in the 1,600 (4:27.56) to help Normal West finish 14th in the 16-team Minooka Invitational. Teammate Leslie Fisher was fourth in the triple jump (41-9½).

EPG sweeps at Fairbury: The El Paso-Gridley boys scored 171 points and the girls 211.5 to sweep the titles in the nine-school Prairie Central Co-Ed Invitational at Fairbury.
For the boys, Prairie Central was second (142), Ridgeview-Lexington third (139.5) and Central Catholic fourth (94). For the girls, Prairie Central was second (123), Blue Ridge third (92.5) and Central Catholic fourth (86).
Prairie Central's Chandlar Ifft pole vaulted a meet record 16 feet. Mason Barr of Ridgeview-Lexington swept the 100 (11.09), the 110 high hurdles (14.59) and 300 intermediate hurdles (38.75), setting meet records in the latter two events. Teammate Tate Walcott captured the 200 (22.41), long jump (20-2) and triple jump (39-10).
For the girls, EPG's Cate Atkins swept the 1,600 (5:48.54) and 3,200 and Blue Ridge's Jenna Mozingo swept the hurdles (16.62 and 49.68).
U High 6th at Prospect: University High scored 19 points to finish sixth in the seven-team Prospect Invitational at Mount Prospect. Barrington won with 64.
The Pioneers were paced by the third-place No. 1 doubles team of Dorath Chamarthi and Thomas Moh.
Saints top U High: Winning pitcher Bailey Coffman stroked a two-run homer in Central Catholic's three-run sixth inning en route to a 3-1 victory over host University High (13-2).
Kayla Stenger had two of Central's five hits and drove in a run. Coffman and reliever Harley Schade limited U High to five hits. Abby Knight had four of the Pioneers' five hits. U High pitcher Maddie Roop (7-2) went seven innings, fanning 10 and walking none.
NCHS tops Edwardsville: Ryann Anderson scored off an assist from Lia Ward 37 seconds into the game to make Normal Community (9-1-1) a 1-0 winner over visiting Edwardsville. The Tigers outshot NCHS, 9-8.
