Cole Hernandez's two-run single in the top of the eighth inning snapped a 7-all tie Monday and led Normal West High School's baseball team to a 10-7 win over Sacred Heart-Griffin at Springfield.
Hernandez and Evan Wallgren each had three hits for the Wildcats (6-4), while Cody Hardt and Brandon Roth added two apiece.
Will Kafer (2-0) got the win in relief, allowing two runs, one earned, and striking out four in 3 2/3 innings.
BHS clips Pontiac: Bloomington scored two runs in the first and one in the second and went on to a 3-2 nonconference victory over visiting Pontiac.
Alex Imhof and Nick Sharp had two hits each for the Purple Raiders (3-6). Sharp, Ethan Crutcher and Crew Leathers drove in runs in support of Rylan Hambleton (1-1), who allowed two runs and struck out five in 5 2/3 innings. Jesse Goropesek struck out three in 1 1/3 innings for his first save.
Carter Dawson and Tyler Pulliam had two hits apiece for Pontiac.
NCHS downs Moline: Nick Gilhaus allowed two hits and struck out 10 in 5 2/3 innings to lead Normal Community to a 6-1 home victory over Moline.
Caleb Zborezek and Nick Stoner each had two hits and an RBI for the Ironmen (6-1). Gilhaus (2-0) was relieved by Brendan Short and Mason Burns, neither of whom allowed a hit.
Vance lifts Tri-Valley: Isaac Vance's two-run single capped a five-run seventh-inning rally as Tri-Valley won at Lexington, 6-5.
Elliott, GCMS roll: Cade Elliott had three hits and scored three times in GCMS' 14-4, five-inning win over visiting Fisher.
Anderson powers Eureka: Adam Anderson had three hits, including a home run and a double, as Eureka (9-1, 1-0) posted an 11-2 victory at Heyworth.
Barnett hits for cycle: Sydney Barnett hit for the cycle and drove in five runs in Pontiac's 10-0, five-inning win at Coal City. Amanda Fox had three hits and pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts.
Slayback paces Heyworth: Adyson Slayback pitched a three-hitter, striking out eight, and also had a hit and two RBIs in Heyworth's 11-0, five-inning home win over Eureka. Raeghan Morefield had three hits and two RBIs.
Eberle fans 19: Madi Eberle struck out 19 and walked two in GCMS' 5-1 home victory over Fisher. Eberle also had three hits and an RBI. She allowed five hits and no earned runs.
Hansen fuels Streator: Winning pitcher Jadyn Hansen had three hits and three RBIs in Streator's 11-6 win over Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell.
U High 1-2 at tourney: University High's boys tennis team went 1-2 in dual matches during the rain-delayed Edwardsville Spring Invite. The Pioneers defeated St. Louis University High, 8-1, before suffering 5-4 losses to perennial Kentucky state power St. Xavier of Louisville and host Edwardsville. There were teams from Illinois, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas and Kentucky.
"This was our best showing in the high-profile showcase and we loved the opportunity to compete with the best," U High coach Mark Bowers said.
