Kayla Stenger homered in the first game prior to Ellie Nelson and Bailey Coffman swatting homers in the second contest as the Central Catholic High School softball team (17-10) won twice in the Hits for the Cure Tournament at the Louisville Slugger Dome in Peoria on Saturday.

The Saints opened with an 11-10, eight-inning win over Quincy Notre Dame before downing Morton, 14-3, in five innings. 

Against Notre Dame, Coffman (11-6) got the win with help from Stenger, who had two doubles among her four hits to drive in three runs. In the nightcap, winning pitcher Harley Schade (6-4) drove in three runs. Charlie Sartoris had three hits, including a triple and a double, to drive in three runs.

Fisher splits: Winning pitcher Sydney Eichelberger fanned 11 and walked two while pitching a one-hitter for visiting Fisher in a 2-1 victory over Argenta-Oreana. Eichelbelger helped her cause with two doubles. In other action, Fisher lost to Central A&M, 9-2, despite two RBIs from Taylor May.

BASEBALL

NCHS swamps Urbana: Nick Gilhaus (5-0), Ethan Potts and Nick Decandio combined on a five-inning one-hitter as Normal Community (17-3, 8-2) won, 20-1, at Urbana.

Gilhaus led his team's 12-hit attack with three hits, including two doubles, to drive in four runs. Dylan Tracy chipped in two hits and two RBIs.

Normal West wins: Cole Hernandez had three hits including a double while Cody Hardt provided a three-run double as Normal West (18-5, 8-0) won, 11-6, over visiting Champaign Centennial (13-10, 6-4).

Evan Wallgren (3-0) got the win. Sean Shook had two of the Wildcats' 12 hits.

Tri-Valley tops Blue Ridge: Isaac Vance fanned nine while tossing a two-hitter for Tri-Valley in a 6-1 victory over visiting Blue Ridge. Drew Kitterman had three hits and three RBIs for the Vikings.

Heyworth beats Lexington: Eric Wurmnest had a home run among his three hits to drive in three runs for Heyworth in an 11-1, five-inning home victory over Lexington. Garrett Houston drove in three runs for the Hornets.

Dee-Mack edges Roanoke: Will Girardi had three doubles and one RBI to help Deer Creek-Mackinaw down visiting Roanoke-Benson, 10-8. Sam Scott had two hits and two RBIs for the Chiefs. Jarrett Bline had three RBIs for the Rockets.

Mount Pulaski moves to 16-3: Drew Martin (5-0) fanned 11 during four innings of one-hit pitching as Mount Pulaski (16-3) topped visiting Springfield Southeast, 9-1, in six innings.

SOCCER

Watts, BHS triumph: Denise Watts had a hat trick to power Bloomington (8-9-1) to a 4-1 win at East Peoria. Paige Gardner chipped in one goal and one assist for the Purple Raiders, who also received assists from Hailey Eddington, Darlease Watts and Yuliana Torres.

Normal West falls: Lemont defeated Normal West, 1-0, in the Adidas Tournament of Champions at Burlington, Iowa. Earlier, the Wildcats fell to St. Thomas Aquinas of Overland Park, Kan., in the semifinals, 2-1. Audrey Marsaglia scored for West (9-8-1), which got six saves from goalie Bekah Nielsen. She had five saves against Lemont.
