Lauren Shanks scored all seven goals for the Central Catholic girls soccer team as the Saints topped IVC, 7-1, on Monday at Chillicothe.
Shanks also surpassed the 40-goal mark for the season, reaching 41 with Monday's outburst.
"The amazing thing about her is, she's maturing in her game," said Central coach Reza Ghasemi of his star sophomore. "She doesn't just take a power shot, she takes smart shots and is a pure, natural finisher. She also has amazing dribbling skills and is able to play smart."
Central grabbed a 3-0 halftime lead in improving to 8-10. Sarah Brady assisted Shanks on two of the scores with Caroline O'Connor and Ellie Stevens also adding helpers.
The Saints outshot IVC 25-6 with goalkeeper Kylee Hadley recording five saves.
Davis, Olympia handle Hawks: Andy Davis belted a solo home run to help Olympia to a 5-1 Corn Belt Conference win over Prairie Central at Fairbury. Winning pitcher Rece Finck struck out nine and helped his own cause with a double and an RBI.
Tri-Valley outlasts Pioneers: Tri-Valley broke an 8-8 tie with a run in the sixth inning and added an insurance tally in the seventh to take a 10-8 nonconference win over University High at Normal.
Alexis West had a double and triple among her five hits to lead Tri-Valley's 17-hit attack. Maggie Dew and Izzy Mata each added three hits.
Lexus Tennison homered and had four RBIs for U High. The Pioneers also received three hits and two RBIs each from Jasmyne Lawrence and Maddie Roop.
Bielfeldt, GCMS roll past Dee-Mack: Makenzi Bielfeldt belted two home runs, including a grand slam, and had seven RBIs to lead GCMS to a 19-4 Heart of Illlinois Conference win over Deer Creek-Mackinaw at Gibson City. Eryca Meinen chipped in two doubles and 6 RBIs for the Falcons.
EPG topples Heyworth: Sydney Hall homered while Allie Paternoga and winning pitcher Megan Stone drove in three uns each as El Paso-Gridley defeated Heyworth, 11-5, in a Heart of Illinois Conference game at Heyworth.
PBL falls short: Leslie Lawon hit a home run and had four RBIs, but a PBL seventh-inning rally fell short in a 12-11 loss to Watseka at Paxton.
TRACK AND FIELD
Galloway shines in TVC meet: Dwight's Daly Galloway captured three distance events, while Tri-Point's Jacki Weller won both dashes in the TVC girls meet at Paxton.
Galloway beat the field by over two minutes in winning the 3,200-meter run in 11 minutes, 19.71 seconds. She also captured the 800 meter (2:28.26) and 1,600-meter (5:25.86) events.
Weller won the 100-meter dash in 13.76 before capturing the 200 with a time of 27.30.
Dwight finished fourth and Tri-Point fifth, behind third-place PBL in the 10-team meet.
