Ethan Barnett threw a one-hitter Wednesday as Normal West High School's baseball team routed Peoria High, 16-0, in a five-inning Big 12 Conference baseball game to give Chris Hawkins his 500th victory as the Wildcats' head coach.

West also won the second game of the doubleheader, 11-0, in five innings.

"That's a lot of games, for sure," said Hawkins, who has a 501-211 record in 20 years. "It was a fun night. The kids played hard. It's been a lot of years and a lot of games. My dad (Mike) asked me who my first win was against in 2000 and I honestly have no idea."

West (13-4, 4-0) put Wednesday's opener away with nine runs in the third for a 12-0 lead. Barnett (1-0) struck out seven in a complete game. Evan Hutson went 3-for-4 with four RBIs while Cole Hernandez and Brandon Roth homered.

Sean Shook (1-0) pitched a four-hitter with eight strikeouts in the second game. Austin Collinson had three hits, including a double, and drove in a run.

U High cruises: MacCallan Conklin had three hits, scored three times and drove in two runs in University High's 18-0, six-inning Central State Eight win at Decatur MacArthur. Karson Bonaparte was the winning pitcher, allowing two hits and striking out eight in four innings.

BHS suffers loss: Daniel Ferrier had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run as Bloomington dropped a 5-2 Big 12 Conference decision to Champaign Central at Bloomington. Nick Sharp also had an RBI for BHS (5-11, 2-2).

Lincoln edges Saints: Lincoln outlasted Central Catholic, 12-10, in a nonconference game at Bloomington's McGraw Park. Patrick Namoff had a single, double and three RBIs for Central (5-13). Gage Juarez added a three-run double.

Garard lifts GCMS: Nathan Garard allowed one hit and struck out 14 as Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley edged host Eureka, 1-0, in a Heart of Illinois Conference game. Garard also had one of two hits for the Falcons and drove in the only run.

Olympia romps: Hunter Berges went 3 for 3 with three runs scored and three RBIs and also was the winning pitcher in Olympia's 18-8 win over Tolono Unity in an Illini Prairie Conference game at Tolono.

Israel fans 10: Tremont's Silas Israel struck out 10 in a three-hitter as Tremont defeated visiting Fieldcrest, 4-1.

Tri-Valley wins big: Piercen Rice had three hits, including a double, and three RBIs in Tri-Valley's 23-9 victory over Ridgeview at Colfax.

SOFTBALL

McGonigle hurls gem: Normal West's Rylee McGonigle pitched a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts in a 2-0 nonconference win at Lincoln. McGonigle (4-2) was backed by three hits from Bailey Turner. West (13-3) also received two hits each from Mikayla Fairfield and Jaxynn Dyson.

U High rolls MacArthur: University High belted out 18 hits in a 19-0 victory over Decatur MacArthur in a three-inning Central State Eight Conference game at Decatur. Maddie Ropp had three hits, including a home run, and four RBIs while striking out five and allowing one hit. Abby Knight and Makaylea Sepich also had three hits each.

Saints top Centennial: Ellie Nelson, Kayla Stenger and Bailey Coffman hit home runs as Central Catholic posted a 12-7 home win over Champaign Centennial. Harley Schade, Kylie Gibbs and Diane Tomczak each added two hits for the Saints (12-10), with Tomczak driving in three runs. Coffman (8-6) got the win.

GCMS' Eberle fans 20: Madi Eberle struck out 20 and allowed two hits as Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley topped Eureka, 3-1, in an eight-inning game at Eureka.

McAllister keys Tremont: Paige McAllister struck out 12 and walked none in a four-hitter as Tremont edged visiting Fieldcrest, 2-1.

Slayback fuels Heyworth: Heyworth's Adyson Slayback allowed no earned runs and struck out eight in a 3-2 win at Fisher.

Warlow paces LeRoy: Charly Warlow pitched a two-hitter and also had two hits in LeRoy's 7-1 home win over Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell.

GIRLS SOCCER

NCHS blanks Central: Ryann Anderson had three goals and one assists in Normal Community's 7-0 Intercity Tournament win over Central Catholic at Normal. Shannon Tomlinson, Hanah Crowder, Elizabeth DeVecchi and Angela Leone also scored for NCHS (11-1-1, 3-0 in tournament).

Assists went to Crowder, Anderson, Lia Ward, Maggie Peters, Tomlinson, Grace Blair and Ella Jimenez. Savannah Henson made two saves.

U High rolls: Alison Heller and Bree Cordray each scored two goals in University High's 5-0 home victory over Champaign Central. Meredith Heller also scored for the Pioneers (9-6-1). Adriana Crabtree and Julia Herrman had assists and Sophie Dorgan made one save.
